3710. The Pantheon among Hogwarts Professors
The Hogwarts teachers as they sit along their long table reflect the ancient mythologies, from Dumbledore, Zeus to Professor Sprout as Demeter or Hathor. Argus Filch is guardian of the gates at Hogwarts, Minerva is its font of wisdom. Dour Snape, always excluded, has many correspondences to Hades as he lurks underground. But which archetypes are missing from the モHogwarts Pantheonヤ? Are they just reenacting the Roman gods, or are there other, closer correspondences? Exploring all these archetypes can deepen our understanding of the characters when the Hogwarts pantheon is revealed as a chorus of quibbling gods and Harry their appointed hero.

3732. The Heroine's Journey
You know all about the classic heroメs journeyラnow learn about the heroineメs! Weメll chart the heroineメs journey step-by-step from ancient myths to modern reimaginings like Coraline and The Force Awakens. Rather than a sword, the questing heroine wields magic slippers, a mirror, a chalice. Only after she has defeated her dark side, the wicked witch, can she grow into a bestower of wisdom in this beloved pattern favored by fantasy readers and writers. Like the heroメs journey, this pattern is useful for those who enjoy reading and analyzing literature, and also those who want to write it, especially fantasy and coming of age stories. Today the heroine is gaining power as big budget films like the Narnia and The Hunger Games series fill the screens. Itメs an important reminder that fantasy is not just for boys.

3746. How Game of Thrones Will End: The Influences Driving the Show and All the Paths It May Take
Game of Thrones takes its story from many influences: the War of the Roses, King Arthur, Norse and Celtic myth as well as modern classics. Will the story end like Lord of the Rings or completely invert it? How about Ragnarok with its three-year Winter of the Winds and Winter of the Wolf? Pop culture author Valerie Estelle Frankel examines the sources and predicts the likeliest Game of Thrones ending. By tracing the prophecies of the early books, which correspond directly to the steps of the heroineメs journey, Daenerysメs surprising path becomes clear as she will モwake the dragonヤ and harness a surprising magic. Is Jon Snow destined to be her lover, her nemesis, her sacrifice, or all three? And what of Bran? Or Tyrion? What does Varys really want? In the end, the key to salvation lies in the forgotten lore hidden at Oldtown and Dragonstone, in the words of the Faceless Men and the Red Priests. For the endless winter is dark and full of terrorsナand itメs coming. No show spoilers, but lots of speculation.
